Juneau and the Float-Plane
From the peaceful privacy of our room we ventured into Juneau this morning – a little bleary eyed from the 4am sunrise – it’s hard to just sleep when new worlds of fjords and mountains and snow are unfolding with the dawn.
Juneau, the capital of Alaska, is another town built into the side of a mountain on Tlingit country, inspired by gold, inhabited some say by the more liberal (left and climate conscious) of the Alaskan populace – but also their governor, Sarah Palin.
We had intended another tram car ride up the mount for an overview and a visit to the Aboriginal artist market. But found ourselves unable to resist the opportunity to an even more splendid overview, plus the novel experience, of a flight in a float or sea plane as we know it…
Five glaciers later we have come to land… what a treat!
