Aurlandsfjord and the Flåm Railway

We took the boat trip down Aurlandsfjord, along the innermost side arm of the world’s deepest and second-longest fjord, and what a sight to behold!

Later we boarded the old train that runs on the  Flåm Railway,  named the world’s most incredible train journey by Lonely Planet in 2014. Almost 80% of the journey has a gradient of 5.5% which means we climbed steeply and very quickly.

Gorgeous valleys, thunderous waterfalls and lichen covered rocks. Truly exciting trip with lots of ooos and awwws.

We jumped off one station before Mryndal to have coffee at the charming old Hotel Vatnahalsen with our travelling companions Geoff and Sid (from Queens New York)
